Sara Howley Callari
President/CEO
Sara Callari is a marketing and communications professional with more than 25 years of experience.
Sara is the founder and president of Howley Group, LLC, which provides consulting, project management, and professional services in areas such as marketing/advertising, communications strategies (proactive and crisis), branding, strategic partnership development, special events and unique projects.
Prior to founding Howley Group, Sara was the Vice President of Marketing for HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) East Florida Division, overseeing the marketing and communications efforts for 13 hospitals located in South East Florida. Previously, Sara spent nearly 18 years as the Senior Vice President/Chief Communications and Marketing Officer for Broward Health, one of the largest public health systems in the nation. Broward Health, serving more than 1.8 million residents, has four medical centers, a children’s hospital and more than 50 other healthcare facilities located in Broward County, Florida.
At Broward Health, Sara was responsible for all marketing and communications functions. Her corporate team handled marketing services, the organization’s website, social media, a physician referral line, media relations, and publications. She also oversaw the marketing, community and physician relations functions for seven divisions, including five hospitals, a more than 70-member physician practice group, community health services and outpatient/urgent care centers.
Prior to Broward Health, Sara worked for AutoNation in the marketing, training and real estate divisions and with Darden Restaurants in the New Business Division. In addition, Sara worked in Cleveland, Ohio for the ABC and CBS affiliates and The Plain Dealer Publishing Company.
She is a graduate of John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a minor in English. Sara is a speaker and panelist on crisis management, branding and marketing communications tactics in healthcare.
In 2015, Sara was named a Top Marketer of the Year in Healthcare by DTC Perspectives. The program recognized extraordinary hospital marketers nationwide for their driving innovation, spearheading great creative and working towards better branding for their hospitals. Over the years, Sara and her team have been the recipients of many awards and professional achievements, locally and nationally. In July 2004, Sara testified before a subcommittee of the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC regarding HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and the media.
Sara is the Past Chair for Gilda’s Club South Florida and has been involved with Gilda’s Club for nearly 10 years. She is Past President of the Florida Society of Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing (Florida Hospital Association). She is a graduate of Leadership Broward, and is a member of Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (a division of the American Hospital Association), the Public Relations Society of America, and a former member of the Communications Subcommittee of the Region 7 Domestic Security Task Force.
